Almina Sıla Kuran Selected for the International School on Urban Morphology

Bilkent LAUD fourth-year student Almina Sıla Kuran was selected to take part in the 3rd International School on Urban Morphology in Famagusta, where she worked on a morphological study of the city and presented it to a panel of experts.

Fourth-year student Almina Sıla Kuran was selected to represent Bilkent LAUD at the 3rd International School on Urban Morphology (ISUM 2026), an intensive program held at Eastern Mediterranean University in Famagusta from 23 to 30 April 2026. The school was organized by the International Seminar on Urban Form and the Cyprus Network of Urban Morphology, with the Arab, Iranian and Turkish networks of urban morphology taking part.
The work
Over the week, participants studied the morphology of Famagusta, reading the spatial and formal relationships between its historic core and its postcolonial developments, and the way political and natural boundaries have shaped the city. Through theoretical instruction, fieldwork, cartographic analysis, urban walks and site surveys, they produced original morphological assessments and planning-oriented proposals.
Working in an international team alongside Auwal, Mahmoud and Josiah, Almina Sıla Kuran developed a morphological reading of Famagusta's transitional urban fabric, proposing how it could evolve, and presented the team's work to the panel of experts at the end of the school.
